Yared Negusse, first Ethiopian to reach semi-final of World Ju-Jitsu Yared Negusse

Yared Negusse Dechassa became the first Ethiopian to reach the semi-final stage in the 56 Kg category at the World Ju-Jitsu Championships in Wroclaw, Poland,

Yared, who was competing in NeWaza (Brazilian Ju-Jitsu), had a bye in the first round. He beat  Sandro Soos of Germany in the next round but lost to Jeison Mora Pineida of Colombia in the semi-final due to a penalty call. The referee disqualified him for using hill lock.

Yared has achieved what no other Ethiopian or African athlete has done before. He is now ranked 5th in the world and number 1 in Africa.

He won the admiration of many fans, who were amazed by his techniques, speed and humbleness. He recently received an offer to take part in a seminar in Abu Dhabi, where he will familiarize himself with the very complicated rules from highly qualified instructors from Brazil.

Dr. Tsegaye Degineh of Ethiopia, who is Vice President, Ju-Jitsu African Union and President, JJAFU East Africa and
Vice President, Ju-Jitsu International Federation Ethics Commission, served as Yared’s coach at the championship.
