Ethiopian Man Arrested and Charged with Indecent Exposure and Attempted Child Abduction
Police Department’s 3rd District (in Maryland State) have charged Jemberu Bekele Geda, age 37, of the 11500 block of Lockwood Drive, Silver Spring, with indecent exposure for an incident involving a juvenile female, and attempted child abduction of two boys under the age of 10.
On Sunday, April 16 at approximately 6:48 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the area of 11550 Stewart Lane in White Oak for the report of an attempted child abduction that had just occurred.
The investigation revealed that two male victims, 8 and 9-year-old cousins, were playing at a neighborhood playground when the suspect, later identified as Jemberu Bekele Geda, approached them. After approaching the victims, Jemberu grabbed them by their wrists and attempted to bring them into his apartment. The victims told Jemberu that they did not want to go with him and Jemberu let go of their wrists. After being released, the victims fled to their nearby home where they immediately told a parent about the incident. Responding officers also learned that earlier that day, Jemberu had exposed himself to a 13-year-old female who also lives in the neighborhood.
Responding officers located Jemberu at his home where he was positively identified as the same suspect who exposed himself to the female victim and who attempted to abduct the male victims. Jemberu was arrested and during an interview told officers that he did not know any of the victims and that he grabbed the male victims because he wanted them to come play in his apartment.
Jemberu was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with one count of indecent exposure and two counts of attempted child abduction. Jemberu was ordered held without bond.
