Gems and Java Raises Money for “Mothers with a Heart for Ethiopia”
Gems and Java will feature a silent auction table, an Ethiopian market place with products from Ethiopia, an Ethiopian coffee ceremony, as well as some light refreshments.
Shelley Green, founder of Mothers with a Heart for Ethiopia, said that the event will give people an opportunity to hear about the projects they are supporting in Ethiopia, as well as give participants the chance to donate to these programs.

“Our organization raises money to financially support existing programs,” Green said. “One of them is a group home, one of them is surgeries for prolapsed uteruses, WRAPs, which stands for Washable Reusable Affordable Pads and that provides girls and women with supplies to use for their menstrual periods, it also helps to reduce missed days of school and helps to give dignity.”

The organization also supports a program called Girls Gotta Run, where they sponsor five girls to go to school, receive a daily lunch and participate in running training and life skills training. Green said that the families of these girls also receive training in financial management and how to create incomes for their family.
“Our focus is women, children and education,” Green said. “(Gems and Java) is our main fundraiser, but we also have very generous donors who give us substantial donations through the year.”
Green said that after people hear about the different projects supported by Mothers with a Heart for Ethiopia they will have the chance to donate money to a specific program of their choosing.
“They can choose a specific project and a specific amount that they would like to go toward that project, or they can make a general donation,” she said. “There are many different ways to participate in generating funds for us through the fundraiser itself.”
