Construction of Road Connecting Ethiopia and Kenya Completed

Construction of the road linking Ethiopia and Kenya, Turmi - Namrapuz, has been concluded and it is now open for traffic, Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) disclosed.

According to Samson Wondimu, Communication Director at the Authority, the new road would bolster import and export trade between the 2 Horn of Africa countries and the people to people relations as well.

The road is also said to help to connect people residing in Omo Zone. In addition to this, it expected to speed up the commodity exchange of people residing around the Ethio-Kenya border.

The Director also explained the road was constructed by the Chinese firm CGC Oversees while consultancy was carried out by the Ethiopian company Gondwana Engineering respectively.

As per the agreement ERA had with the contractors, the road was to be finalized in 3 years. The construction which was carried out at outlay of 794.8 million Birr is completed as per the time frame set in the agreement. According to Walta Information Center, the entire cost of the construction is covered by the Ethiopian government.
