Tragic: 12 Year Old Girl Dies after Taking Extreme Selfie
A Russian schoolgirl has fallen to her death after climbing over a balcony to take a selfie.
The 12-year-old, known as Oksana B, reportedly took the photo while sitting on a railing on the 17th floor of her apartment building.
She had told her mum she was going for a walk when she went to take the picture.
According to the BBC,Oksana sent the photo to her best friend before police believe she lost her balance and fell to the ground.
According to reports, her friend noticed the picture was taken in a risky location and tried to call her.
When she didn't get an answer, she sent the photo to Oksana's mum.
But it was too late. The 12-year-old's body was found by a passer-by who reported it to police.
"She had so much to live for and now she has lost her life to the craze of looking to do extreme selfies for social media.
"There can be no other reason why she climbed over the damned handrail."
The fatality is one of a string of deaths linked to so-called extreme selfies in Russia in recent years.
The deaths prompted the government to launch a safety campaign advising keen photographers when not to take them.
