Ethiopia Construct 11 New Universities


The Council of Ministers has approved yesterday the establishment of 11 new universities in the country in the coming five years.

The universities will be built in the five regional states, Amhara, Oromia, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Regional (SNNPR) State as well as Tigray and Somali states.

Amhara, Oromia and SNNPR will each have 3 universities, while Tigray and Somali regional states would get one each during the Second GTP.

The council has decided that Raya University is to be built in Maichew, Tigray regional state; and Debark, Engibara and Mekedela Amba universities in Amhara regional state, it was learned.

Similarly, Oromia regional state will get Selale, Dembi Dollo, and Oda Bultum universities.

Kebri Dehar University will be built in Somali regional state.

Worabe, Bonga and Jinka universities will be established in SNNPR.

Upon completion of the 11 universities, Ethiopia will have 44 universities, it was indicated.
