Sisi Meets With Head of Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Council
President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi held a meeting with head of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Ethiopia to discuss promoting cooperation, spokesman for the Presidency Alaa Youssef said.
Sisi said that Egypt's efforts to enhance cooperation with Ethiopia aims at implementing the noble teachings of Islam that call for mutual cooperation and coexistence.
Egypt is ready to fulfill Ethiopia's needs by providing scholarships in various Egyptian universities along with sending Al-Azhar preachers to Addis Ababa to spread the true teachings of Islam, he said.
Sisi stressed the importance of continuing work to increase cooperation and mutual understanding.
The Ethiopian senior scholar described the visit as historic that will open new vistas of relations between the two countries to strengthen cooperation and build confidence between the two peoples, Youssef said.
He called for consolidating cooperation between Al-Azhar and Ethiopian Muslims and increase number of scholars sent from Al-Azhar to Ethiopia and the missions offered for the Ethiopian students.
He praised Al- Azhar's role in graduating senior Ethiopian scholars, who conveyed the moderate teachings of Islam to the Ethiopian people.
He welcomed the signing of document of the Declaration of Principles on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, saying that it is a positive step that will set a stage for further strengthened relations between Egypt and Ethiopia at all levels.
