Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn Arrives In Algiers For An Official Visit
Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegne arrived in Algiers on Saturday ( March 14 2015) for a two-day official visit following invitation from the Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. Upon arrival at the International Airport of Houari Boumediene, the Ethiopian delegation was accorded a warm welcome by the Algerian Prime Minister, Mr. Abdelmalek Sellal.
Prime Minister Hailemariam visited the Martyr's Sanctuary at the Revolution Memorial where he laid a wreath of flowers. At the Martyr's Sanctuary, Prime Minster Hailemariam also made a guided tour of the Mujahid Museum.
Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn is expected to meet the Algerian President and discuss bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern. Following the discussion, different cooperation agreements are expected to be signed to enhance the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Ethiopia and Algeria enjoy longstanding strong bilateral relation. They have held three Joint Ministerial Commissions, and signed around twenty agreements so far.
In 2013, the Ethiopian Foreign Minister Dr. Tedros Adhanom paid an official visit to Algeria and signed the Declaration of Strategic Partnership Agreement which aimed at ekevating the bilateral relation of the two countries a notch higher.
However, despite the warm political relations the two countries enjoy, their economic relation is lags behind. Prime Minister Hailemariam's visit aims to boost trade and investment ties.
