It was hardly a walk in the park for one photographer when he was confronted by a charging white rhino.

Jonathan Pledger bravely stood his grounds to snap these incredible images of the giant animal as it thundered towards him at the Kruger National Park in South Africa.

He was first alerted to the rhino's presence when he heard a rustle in bushes nearby. Seconds later, the angry creature shot out on to a dirt track and charged straight at him.

Mr Pledger said: 'I was on safari taking pictures when suddenly I hear a rustle in the bushes.

'I quickly turned around as you can't be too careful in the bush and saw a white rhino charging towards to me.

'I was so tempted to run out of the way but this was a once in a lifetime opportunity so I couldn't turn my back I had to stand my ground and start snapping.

'For a big guy he was really fast but I managed to get a great sequence of the rhino coming towards me.

'In one of the images he looks so striking and angry I was actually quite scared even though I have been a photographer for such a long time.

Thankfully, the rhino thought better of striking the photographer - and rampaged past.

'Just at the end though he turned to the left and ran straight past me - it was an experience I will never forget,' he said.
