The sole telecom service provider in Ethiopia, Ethio Telecom, announced it has made a 10 to 40 per cent tariff reduction on international voice calls, and up to 51 per cent reduction on international short text messaging.
Ethio Telecom CEO, Frehiwot Tamiru, made the announcement in a press conference. She said the new tariff is effective as of 21 December, 2018.
According to the new tariff, the voice call rate to the rest of Africa is reduced to birr 7.50 from the previous birr 10.29; for Asia and the Middle East, birr 7.19 from birr 8.63; for South America, birr 7.36 from birr 10.29, for the islands of Oceania, birr 8.95 from birr 23.
In August this year, Ethio Telecom had made a tariff cut of up to 40 per cent on its local voice call, SMS and package services.
