Ethiopian Sugar Corporation disclosed, restoration of Methara Sugar Factory, one of the sugar factories in Ethiopia – where the supply can’t meet the demand – has reached 90 percent completion rate. The restoration job was needed following the damaged that caused by a storm.
In order to address the problem, the Corporation has allocated 16 million Birr.
The storm had destroyed the factory’s roof structure, and the Corporation had been carrying out renovation activities since then, Gashaw Ayichiluhum, Corporate Communication Director at the Corporation, explained.
Restoration works are being undertaken by India based Tessy Engineers and Enterprises while the consultant is Ethiopian Construction and Design Supervision Corporation.
In spite of the damages, the factory has been operational for the last 3 months, Gashaw furthered.
It was back in 1962 that Methara Sugar Factory was established. The factory is found in Oromia State and it produces 136,000 tons – 20 percent of the entire nation’s sugar consumption – of sugar per annum.
