Getachew Betru (PhD), CEO of the Ethiopian Railway Corporation (ERC), has been resigned from his post.
He had been absent from his office starting from Wednesday last week, 24th of May, 2017.
Getachew served the ERC for the past ten years. However, there is no clear and specific reason mentioned for the resignation of the former CEO from his post.
Dereje Tefera, Corporate Communication Service Head of the ERC confirmed Getachew’s resignation to Reporter Amharic newspaper, without much delving to the details.
ERC’s Board of Directors (BoDs) currently headed by Sileshi Bekele (PhD), Minister of Water, Irrigation and Electric as a Chairman.
The BoDs has received the Getachew’s resignation and appointed Dr. Birhanu Beshah, Lecturer at the Addis Ababa University as Acting CEO of the Corporation.
Getachew played an active role in the drawing and implementation of the railway strategic plan that aims to build 5000 km railway network across the nation. Despite its ambitious target, the railway corporation was able to complete Addis-Djibouti railway and Addis light railway.
