Afar, Ethiopia, is one of the hottest places on Earth (if not the hottest). Many of the people living in the region struggle to get enough water to drink.

We’re planning Lent with a difference this year – and we want you to help give the boot to water poverty.

But why should you sign up to walk 10,000 steps a day for 40 days?

1. Because 1 in 3 people don’t have access to safe drinking water

By walking in solidarity with people who have to walk to water, and getting sponsored for your challenge, you can make a real difference.

2. You can make difference to people like Ibrahim

It used to take 50-year-old Ibrahim 24 hours to get a drink of water.

“We would go out to get water at around 2am,” says 50-year-old Ibrahim, “and we would get back maybe 24 hours later.”

He lives in the Danakil Depression in northern Ethiopia and had no choice but to make the long and difficult journey for water every day.

The money you raise by Walking for Water will provide practical help to people like Ibrahim, who now has a solar-powered water pump installed near his home. He remembers the day it was installed very well. “It was a day filled with happiness.”
