29 de diciembre de 2020, 10:10Addis Ababa, Dec 29 (Prensa Latina) The Ethiopian government is committed to increasing its efforts to resolve the border problem with Sudan in a peaceful manner, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dina Mufti, assured today.

For the stability and security of our peoples, and also because of its importance for peace in the East African region, it is a priority to resolve the differences as soon as possible, the spokesperson commented at a press conference.

Ethiopia has no interest in causing conflict or going to war with the neighboring country, Mufti said before noting that some Sudanese officials have responsibility for the current situation.

It is impossible to say that some Sudanese government officials are not involved in this issue, he said.

Last week, during the second high-level political dialogue between the two countries, Addis Ababa asked Khartoum to manage the immediate cessation of illegalities on the common border.

Since last October, according to Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen, various events have threatened the security of thousands of citizens, undermined social stability and also disturbed the economic dynamics of both territories.

Mekonnen denounced that from the contiguous state, actions of looting of Ethiopian farmers’ productions and the destruction of camps were promoted, while several civilians died and others were injured in disparate violent acts.

At the meeting itself, Sudan declared that it is vital to demarcate the border, denounced attacks by the Ethiopian army against its Sudanese counterpart and reaffirmed its willingness to resolve any problem through dialogue, under the historical bilateral relations.
