Heartbreaking photos from the scene of the deadly concert shooting in Las Vegas show officials loading body bags into coroner's vans the day after 59 people were confirmed dead.

The work to process the scene and transport the dead continued well into Monday afternoon, more than 16 hours after shooter Stephen Paddock, 64, opened fire from the Mandalay Bay hotel into a crowd of thousands of people at a country music concert.

Police have warned that identifying bodies from the worst mass shooting in modern US history will be a 'long, laborious process'.

As the Nevada sun beat down on the trash-strewn festival grounds, lost and discarded cellphones could reportedly be heard ringing over and over, as family members attempted to reach their missing loved ones.

By 3pm local time, Clark County Coroner John Fundenberg said that all of the confirmed fatalities had 'been recovered and transported to our office'.

As of Monday evening, the casualty count stood at 527 injured and 59 dead. It was unclear whether the number of dead included Paddock, who killed himself as police breached his 32nd-floor sniper's nest.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo has said the hundreds of people who were wounded were taken to five southern Nevada hospitals.

Lombardo said that teams were still processing the scene of the festival grounds on Monday night.

'We've had several people calling about personal items located at the stadium. We are not done processing the scene and when we are done... we will help you retrieve the items,' Lombardo said in a televised news conference.

In addition to the laborious work investigators undertook to process the crime scene of the festival grounds, forensics teams swept the hotel room in the Mandalay Bay where the shots were fired from, and two Nevada homes maintained by Paddock.
