  • The footage, filmed in Kosovo, shows the enormous chicken exiting it's coop
  • Viewers have expressed their amazement at the sheer size of the animal
  • The short clip has been viewed an astonishing 81 million times

A freakishly large chicken is taking the internet by storm, leaving viewers scared - and more than a little confused.

The video, first posted on March 17, features a massive chicken struggling to get out of a coop.

With its huge claws and plumes the animal looks more like a dinosaur then a cockerel.

The bird, named 'Merakli', is owned by Fitim Sejfijaj from Kosovo.

It is a Brahma chicken, a particularly large breed of the bird often referred to as the 'King of All Polutry'.

There is controversy about the origins of the bird but according to the Livestock Conservancy the bird was originally developed in America from large fowls imported from Shanghai.

While the average chicken can weigh anywhere between 1.5 to eight pounds, a male Brahma chicken can weigh up to an astonishing 18 pounds.

The original video was posted on a Facebook group which appears to be dedicated to raising exceedingly large chickens.

Gregg Clayton Cummings posted: 'I could have sworn as it was first stepping out that it was a man in a costume.'

Chris Mapa said: 'I was expecting the Jurassic Park theme song and the T-Rex roar when it came out.'
