Congrats: Daughter of Ethiopian Immigrants, Is The Charlotte Post Foundation’s Senior of the Year Sara Hailu

Sara Hailu, a daughter of Ethiopian immigrants and a senior at Levine Middle College High School, is The Charlotte Post Foundation’s Senior of the Year.

Sara Hailu, The Charlotte Post Foundation’s Top Senior of the Year, is a student at Levine Middle College High School. The daughter of Ethiopian immigrants, Sara Hailu was surprised to learn of her selection as the senior with the best combination of academics, extracurricular activity and community involvement.

“I’m really grateful to The Charlotte Post for giving me this title,” she said. “It’s an honor that I did not expect. It’s a daunting honor, I think. For me, being a Top Senior means really representing the community I come from. It means being the best I can be, not just to earn accolades, but really to be fulfilled so I can better those who came before me and those who will come after me and just show how grateful I am and show that nothing is possible without the help of others.”

Sara Hailu and Hopewell High School senior Catherine Hill, the senior of the year runner up, will be honored Sept. 16 at the annual Charlotte Post Best banquet at the Marriott Center City.

Sara, who has a 5.15 grade point average, sees education as the cornerstone to the American dream. Her academic proficiency has earned her acceptance letters from her top college choices, Princeton and Harvard universities. Sara’s professional goal is to become a medical statistician, which combines her enthusiasm for math and science.
