Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) concluded 8 billion Birr worth road construction and upgrade contracts for 7 projects. The agreements are said to stretch for 468 kilometers in different states of Ethiopia.
According to ERA the projects will be undertaken in 4 different states and they are all part of the Second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II). Among others, road projects that will see construction are Daye – Chire – Nansebo, Menbegna – Fiche – Shanbo and Chiko – Yigrachefe which all are in Oromia and Southern, Nations, Nationalities and Peoples states. In addition to these, the construction of Jigjiga – Gelelish – Deghimedo – Seged road project will be undertaken in Somali State.
On the other hand Muketuri – kokebmesk, Mukaturi – Alemketema, Alemketema – Degolo and Degolo –Kelela routes will be upgraded to asphalt roads. These projects are going to be in Oromia and Amhara states.
The projects are expected to ease transport for investors that will come to the areas. The construction and upgrade works are expected to take 2 to 3 years.
