Ethio-China cement forum, which is expected to last for 3 days, kicked of yesterday Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa.
Speaking at the opening event of the forum, Dr. Alemu Sime, State Minister for Industry, disclosed that Ethiopia had raised its annual cement production capacity to 13 million tons. After meeting its local demand Ethiopia was now exporting cement to its neighboring countries, he added.
In addition to helping the country save foreign currency, Ethiopia is now generating foreign currency and also the cement market has stabilized.
In order to fill the gap in skilled manpower, Ethiopia has established centers of excellence in cement technology. The centers were established at Addis Ababa and Adama science and technology universities.
